To this very I've still never played a single game in this series. Heard good things though, guess I'll keep an eye out. Good find!
PERSOOOOOOOOOOOONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I just had to do that. I think this proved my point in the post I made about the PS Vita being able to play PS2 games. For reference, go to my post: http://psvitagamer.n...play-ps2-games/
As I'm sure you can guess from my avatar, I had to change pants after reading this news yesterday. This PLUS a Persona fighting game... Now the horrible waiting starts....
They did say something about Persona 5 as well. In terms of the fighting game is Japanese arcades only when it first comes out.
Holy crap. This is awesome news. The entire Persona series is epic in it's own right. I had to change my pants as well after reading. Then after that I read Neo's post about there being a Persona fighting game and went through a second pair of pants. With their release of Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3DS earler this month, Atlus has me going through pants like fat kids go through cake. By the way Neo, think you can hook me up with some info on that fighting game if you have some good info. VERY interested in a Persona fighting game.
Anyone who hasn't played the original, go ahead and close your eyes, because this thread is about to become a spoiler-fest  Well for the fighting game, Giantbomb has an entry which sums up everything known so far (not that much). Yu (still getting used to that), Chie, Youske, Yukiko, Kanji, and Aigis(!) will be playable characters. It looks like Teddie and Rise won't. It's being developed by the team behind the BlazBlue series, which I haven't played, but have heard good things about. As long as Chie's finisher is Galactic Punt, I'll be content. Back on topic, it looks like exploration in P4G will be free-roaming like the original, and anime cutscenes (though not necessarily the originals) will be included, which takes care of my two big beefs with P3P. Plus, there's a new character, who as far as I can tell from the screens will be localized as "Marie" (Katakana ma ri--) (maybe a foreigner?), and more locations will be visitable.

That might even be some ambient occlusion in the second shot. Would need to see it in motion to be sure though. Now if they'd just throw some AA on there, it would be perfect...
Don't know what persona is/never played it .. so could anyone explain to me why is everyone excited ?
It's an anime themed RPG where you use your Persona (an embodiment of your personality) to fight monsters called Shadows. Each has its own independent story so you can pick up 4 without playing 1, 2, or 3 to get into it. P3 Trailer : Here P3 Gameplay : You can skip to 6:30 P4 Trailer : Here P4 Gameplay : Just first boss not much to spoil Well then it's just not your type of game. Just play what you like.
It has a niche following for sure, and luckily I am a huge fan of every game that Atlus has released, especially the SMT series. For those of you who need a reason to buy it, one of the best demons you can fuse and control is Lucifer. Nuff said right?
Yeah, I'd definitely recommend picking up 4 first if you're interested (or waiting until the Vita version if you don't have a PS2). 3 has a few rough edges, though I think it would be as good a game as 4 if you had full party control... well, almost. The connection between the two boils down to a couple cameos and easter eggs (like the platypus thing- got that question wrong on my first playthrough, but right the second time after playing 3 lol) so you really aren't missing anything.
Neo is correct. If you have a PSP then get the portable version of P3, because they implemented full party control in this version where as the original doesn't have the option and it's all left up to the AI. The only drawback is that it doesn't have FES on it. Either way, its a great series to pick up if you need something new to try.
All the Shin Megami Tensei games are awesome and freaking love Persona, I am looking forward for this one *O*
Thanks, Bankston, I forgot about P3P (even though I'm playing it as we speak, funny how that works). Although P3P improves the battle gameplay dramatically, I really have a hard time recommending either version of Persona 3 over the other (FES and P3P). When I finally got around to playing P3, I actually had both FES and P3P, both of which I'd played a few hours of, and I had a REALLY hard time deciding which version to play through. Gameplay is obviously superior in the portable version, but you miss out on the in-engine and pre-rendered cutscenes, which really hurts the narrative and flow of the game. The portable one has to rely on exposition far too often, and it just doesn't have the same kind of impact. I ended up choosing the PS2 version and ****SPOILER ALERT.................................... ....................................................................... after watching shinji's death scene ....................................................................... .......................................END SPOILER**** I knew I made the right choice. I think that's the best way to do it, FES first, then P3P, but even after Persona 4 I was almost turned away by lack of party control in FES. So I dunno, I guess the bottom line is whatever you do, play P4 as its the easiest introduction to the series, then look into P3 and figure out which version suits you best. My fingers are still crossed for an Ultimate Persona HD Collection with the definitive versions of P3 and P4 in 1080p... lol. EDIT: BTW Bankston, you pickin up P2 tomorrow? This'll be my first time playing it, I'm pretty psyched.
Of course, lol. I have the only reserve at my Gamestop. Iv'e played Eternal Punishment on the PS1 but I never got around to importing Innocent Sin. This was an awesome choice for a remake because Innocent Sin is the only Persona that never got localized outside of Japan. And I agree about FES man. If you got introduced to the Persona series through P4, which thankfully I didn't, then going back to FES can be hard as hell, especially when all your team wants to do is buff themselves. You don't know how many times I screamed "I don't need buffs dammmt, just kill it!"
Lol you just brought back memories of Mitsuru spamming Ice Break.... oh god.... YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO KNOCK HIM DOWN!!! *Mudo* there goes an hour and a half of progress... Yukari was even worse though... "let's see the whole party has 1/4 HP, and I'm missing 5" *Diarama* "All better!" *Megidolon* Anyway... Eternal Punishment comes after Innocent Sin chronologically, right? I've held off on looking into them to avoid spoilers, especially since some P1 characters seem to be involved. Gears of War is being released on the 20th as well right? Cool, might be a midnight release tonight.
