Well, I have an affinity for vampire novels. So, that's what my collection centers mostly around. I love it when an author has a different or unique spin on vampire lore. Here's some of my favorites: Vampire Huntress Legend - This series is mind-blowing and definitely more adult-oriented. Though, the vampire lore starts off pretty basic, the take on vampire hunters/huntresses is very unique. The story centers around a young woman named Damali. She supposed to be the greatest huntress ever, but (being young and immature) rebels against her destiny. To make matters worse, the love of her life has been turned into a vampire. What happens from there is a powerful struggle between light, dark and love. I kid you not when I say that this is one of the best series I've ever read. And since I started reading towards the latter of the 12-book series, would order books 2-4 at a time. The author Leslie A. Banks (recently deceased) was a black woman from Philadelphia, PA, USA and it reflects in her writing style. So, if you can get past the slang you're in for a treat. This book not only tackles vampire lore but adds Egyptian history and puts a spin on biblical references! Vampire Academy - I like this series because it has TWO versions of vampire - the Moroi and Strigoi. The Morois are good... well decent vampires that live normal lives. The Strigoi are blood-thirsty (pardon the pun) murderers that hunt and kill Morois. While the Morois are weak and intelligent, the Strigoi are stronger and more primal. And somewhere in between are dhampirs (half-breeds). Since dhampirs are stronger, the Moroi use them as guardians to protect them against Strigoi. This story follows a Moroi and her dhampir guardian through their training as events unfold that rock the very foundation of the Moroi hierarchy. After the VHL series, I desperately searched for another to dive into. While I feel that this series isn't as good as the VHL one, it's excellent in its own right. The fact that their are two versions of vampire intrigued me enough to begin reading. And I wasn't disappointed as later events had me hooked. Twilight - Yeah, I have this here... And while I'm *sigh* reluctant to recommend this series to anyone. It's still a good read. If (and I know it's a deal-breaker for some) you can get past the fact that vampires... 'shimmer' in sunlight... And everyone experiences a massive emo/period/OMGWTF moment or two. It really is built on a great story. Ignore the movies, they don't do the story justice. Ignore the idea that vampires bathe in glitter baths, or wear glitter suntan lotion or whatever. And that the main wolf is about as emo as my late gay cousin on a bad day. (and trust me... it got bad) *Edit: Oh and Deception Point (if it's the one by Dan Brown) is another GREAT read. Along with Digital Fortress and of course Angels & Demons and The DaVinci Code! If you haven't read the last two... Read them!... Again, ignore the movies.
Eek, I hate to say this, but vampires don't appeal to me in any way at all. Thank you for compiling all that information together, I may still give them a shot. But vampires are so, odd and un-interesting to me, if that's even a word lol I guess I'm just broken. :/ LOL But thanks once again!
You're into Vampire books? Read the Darren Shan series. I read all of them! There were like 10+ of them.. They're awesome! It's basically about how Darren, a teen becomes a vampire and has to leave his life and go join the Cirque Du Freak, which is where his mentor Crespley lives. Then a war breaks out between the Vampires ( Good Vampires ) , and the Vampaneze ( Bad Vampires ). Actually awesome books, read the first 2 and if you don't like it, don't continue. It's the same writing style and what not. It's got an awesome story by the way, I loved those books.
Oh, by the way.. I don't know if they'll seem to kiddy to you or something.. I read them a good while ago.. But they're awesome!
No problem. I know that with the overly saturated market of vampire this-and-that, there's probably some that can't stand vampires. But when I look over at my small bookshelf next to my computer, I see Vladimir Tod, Twilight, Vampire Academy... So, that's what I suggested. I have more books, but they're in tubs in my garage. If I remember anything else, I'll reply with more. Lol... I remember when searching for vampire books was difficult. Now, everyone and their bi-polar cousin Ricky has a vampire 'love story' out there. And the success of the Twilight movies made it worse. 'The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod' basically follows an 8th grader through his first crush and first kiss... Can't get more kiddie than that. lol. If it has a great story and an interesting twist, it's worth me giving it a try.
I read all three books in the space of a month and absolutely adored the series but I think suzanne collins had warped sense of what should happen in the end. :/ tell me if you agree
