Well in Australia while they sell the vita for $350 (wifi) $450 (3G) more than a PS3/Xbox, and the games $80 each they have to expect people to pirate.

pirated games and the money everyone would lose would be enough to keep developers from supporting the vita. To be fair, I think they'll be able to protect the vita against hacking... they do a good enough job with the PS3 and 360 which came out years ago, why not with the ps vita.

Xbox is probably one of the most pirated consoles, so many different ways to hack it. Flashed drive for playing burnt discs, JTAG/RGH for playing ISO's of games, its pretty easy to flash a console too.

I actually REALLY don't want the Vita to be hacked. I've never got pirated games before (Except for my Ipod :D) and I think it's just overall bad because it scares people away from supporting the Vita.

The thing I dont understand is you are all saying it will scare people away from developing games for it, but I cant think of one console/handheld that you cant actually pirate games on? Xbox games are some of the most pirated but it still has a massive range of games.

That's true, but Xbox and PS3 have a huge amount of games being sold anyways. i don't think that's the case with handhelds..

The PSP didn't really have much online games to start with. Mostly ad-hoc which I tend to use very often.

i think most people prefer if the PSvita got hacked because they want to download a lot of games instead of buying them
and if the psvita get hacked it could more than its supposed to do and alot of people like to hack/modify their devices

just like the i(IPhone,IPod,IPad) there is cydia which allows people to modify their I device the way they want
and there's Installous which allows people to download Cracked Apps

also its better if the psvita got hacked because then you can download japanese games instead of buying them for 70$ or twice the price of a regular games in the US

*It is Legal to Hack/Jailbreak/Modify Portable Devices*

in the end It's Just my opinion :p
    1 people like this.

If everyone in the world just download all their games, no one would develope any games in the end.

I don't want the PS Vita to be hacked just for the sake of the games. Honestly, a low level hack to run homebrew would be nice (I want a flash app), but I don't want it to be able to play ISOs. That'll kill this thing. The PS Vita is such an awesome little device that I truly hope succeeds in the market.

Further, why is there such a desire to hack it (aside from ISOs) when it can run android apps? Why not develop homebrew apps to run through that native ability? Did I miss something here?

Well like i said, developers lose money when you get games for free, and that means developers will lose interest in devloping games for taht device.

I'm torn! I don't want Sony to fall on it's face all over again but the Vita has the potential to become the greatest plattform for homebrew & emulation. Ever. Just imagine the possibilities! The hardware might be able to emulate any system up to PS2, including Nintendo DS and the whole PSP-library of games. And I'm not talking piracy here. t's just the idea of this all in one plattform that really intrigues me. The PSP already kind of does that for me but it lacks power and can't properly run N64 games and obviously doesn't sport a touchscreen-interface. I bet ScummVM would be at it's best on Vita too.

But since Sony really got their security measures together with PS3, I guess we'll never know. Vita will be, if at all, even harder to crack. Cutom Firmware? Would be great, but I don't really see it happening.
